Project Overview

The Kilmore Recycled Water project delivered a new pump station and 4.4-kilometre recycled water pipeline for Goulburn Valley Water (GVW) and the Kilmore community.

The system enables the Wastewater Management Facility to supply up to 110 megalitres of Class B recycled water annually to Kilmore Racing Club (KRC) and other recreational facilities, including the local cricket club.

The project involved several authorities and agencies and attracted significant public interest. Careful planning, clear communication and stakeholder coordination were essential to minimise disruption to Kilmore residents during construction.

Our Role

Our team provided surveying, civil engineering, design, project management and contract administration services across the project.

Project Highlights

A key challenge was constructing the pipeline across the Northern Highway and through areas of rock. Extensive site investigations were completed during the design phases to assess the ground conditions and identify appropriate construction methods.

The tender documentation clearly defined contractor obligations and allocated the ground-condition risk, supporting timely and cost-effective delivery. Trenchless construction methods were used for the highway crossing to minimise disruption to traffic and the community.

The pipeline was also designed for future expansion, with capacity to supply up to 160 megalitres of recycled water annually to additional community assets.

Outcome

The project provides Kilmore with a reliable and sustainable source of irrigation water for important recreational and community facilities.

By supplying up to 110 megalitres of recycled water each year, and allowing for increased capacity in the future, the new infrastructure reduces demand on potable water supplies and strengthens the community’s long-term climate resilience
